2025 National Scholarship Programme (NSP) by the Slovak Republic

Programme Overview

Established by the Government of Slovakia in 2005, the NSP is a mobility programme for international Master’s, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists. The programme, funded by the Slovak Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport, supports two-way mobility: international participants in Slovakia and Slovak citizens abroad.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Living Allowance:
    • Master’s Students: €620/month
    • PhD Students: €1,025.50/month
    • University Teachers, Researchers, and Artists: €1,025.50 - €1,470/month
  • Accommodation and Food: Covered
  • Visa and Residence Permit: Covered
  • Travel Allowance: €1,500
  • Medical Coverage: €250

Eligibility Criteria

For Master’s Students

  • Enrolled in Master’s level studies outside Slovakia.
  • Completed at least 2.5 years of university studies in a similar field.
  • Accepted for academic mobility at a public, private, or state higher education institution in Slovakia.
  • Duration: 1-2 full semesters (4-5 or 9-10 months), or 1-3 trimesters.

For PhD Students

  • Enrolled in a PhD or scientific training programme outside Slovakia.
  • Accepted by a Slovak institution (e.g., Slovak Academy of Sciences) for research or artistic stay.
  • Duration: 1-10 months.

For University Teachers, Researchers, and Artists

  • Invited to teach, conduct research, or an artistic stay at a non-commercial research institution in Slovakia.
  • Duration: 1-10 months.

Note: Applicants from any country except Slovakia can apply.


Selection Criteria

A selection committee, appointed by the Slovak Minister of Education, evaluates applications based on:

  • Applicant's purpose for studying, teaching, researching, or artistic pursuits in Slovakia.
  • Program details and the applicant’s plan to apply the experience to their future studies or career.
  • Professional and personal qualifications.
  • Study/research accomplishments and recommendation letters.
  • Contributions to the host institution in Slovakia.
  • Quality and clarity of the application.
