2025 Commonwealth Youth Awards Programme for Commonwealth Citizens

The Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence is an initiative by the Commonwealth Youth Programme to recognize and celebrate young leaders (aged 15–29) within the Commonwealth who are driving impactful and sustainable development work in their communities.

For the 2025 Awards, the Commonwealth Foundation and the Khalili Foundation have partnered to offer additional grants and prizes to eligible participants.

Objectives of the Commonwealth Youth Awards:

  1. Highlight Contributions: Celebrate the remarkable efforts of young people in advancing a future grounded in fairness, peace, prosperity, and sustainability, including contributions toward the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Award/Benefits:

  • Regional Finalists: Four finalists from each Commonwealth region will be selected, with the top entries receiving the Regional Winner Award.
  • Pan-Commonwealth Award: The top Regional Winner will be honored with the Pan-Commonwealth Award and named the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year 2025.
  • Regional Finalists: Each of the 20 Regional Finalists will receive a £1,000 grant, a trophy, and a certificate.
  • Regional Winners: The 5 Regional Winners will receive an additional £2,000 (totaling £3,000), along with a trophy and a certificate.
  • Pan-Commonwealth Winner: Will receive an additional £2,000 (totaling £5,000), a trophy, and a certificate.
  • Khalili Foundation PEACE Awards: Three youth PEACE awards will be presented to young leaders in peace and development, with additional grants potentially offered by the Commonwealth Foundation based on eligibility.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must have been involved in development work for more than 12 months, either professionally or as a volunteer.
  • Must be a Commonwealth citizen with development work taking place in a Commonwealth member country.
  • Must be aged 15 to 29 years old by December 31, 2024.
  • Individuals can self-nominate or be nominated by someone familiar with their work.

Selection Criteria:

  • Impact level
  • Innovation and fresh approaches to problem-solving
  • Quality of achievements
  • Quality of evidence provided
  • Sustainability of the work
