Eligibility Criteria

  • Citizenship and Residence: Must be a citizen, resident, and employee of one of the 31 ARES partner-eligible countries.
  • Educational Background: Must hold a degree equivalent to a Belgian master’s degree (300 ECTS credits) for specialized master’s and continuing education programs, or a Belgian bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS credits) for specialized bachelor’s programs.
  • Professional Experience: Must have at least two years of relevant professional experience in an ARES partner country.

  • South America and the Caribbean: Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Peru.
  • Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Vietnam.
  • Asia: Palestinian Territory.

Required Documents

To complete your application, you’ll need to submit:

  • Two recommendation letters (academic and/or professional)
  • Certified copies of diplomas
  • Certified copies of transcripts for all academic years
  • Proof of residence for the last 5 years
  • Certificate of nationality or a copy of your passport
  • Pre-project proposal (for certain courses)

Application Process

Applying for an ARES scholarship is free and can be done online through the GIRAF platform. Follow these steps to apply:

  1. Create a GIRAF Account: If you don’t have one already, sign up and get your account validated by ARES.
  2. Access the Application Form: Log in to your GIRAF account and navigate to “Application for International Training” > “My Tasks” > “Competitive Calls” to find the application form.
  3. Complete the Application: Fill out the form, saving your progress as needed. You can return to it multiple times before submission.
  4. Submit Your Application: Once complete, click “Submit my application.” After submission, your application will appear in “My Submitted Files,” but you will not be able to make changes.
