The United Nations, in collaboration with The Nippon Foundation, is now accepting applications for the 2024 session of the United Nations-Nippon Foundation Fellowship Programme. This fully funded fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for mid-level government officials and professionals from developing countries to enhance their expertise in ocean affairs and the law of the sea.
A Comprehensive Fellowship Experience
This nine-month programme provides an immersive learning experience, beginning with a three-month training phase at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, followed by a six-month research and study phase at a host institution. The programme is designed to equip fellows with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute effectively to the development and implementation of ocean policies and programs in their home countries.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for this fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Be between 25 and 40 years old.
- Education: Hold at least a first university degree or equivalent.
- Research Ability: Demonstrate a proven ability to conduct advanced academic research and studies.
- Citizenship: Be a citizen of a developing state.
- Professional Role: Currently hold a mid-level government or professional position with direct involvement in ocean affairs and/or the law of the sea.
- Research Relevance: The proposed research and study programme must directly contribute to the applicant’s nation’s formulation and/or implementation of ocean affairs and law of the sea policies and programmes.
