KWI International Fellowships 2025 in Germany

The Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen, Germany, is now accepting applications for its prestigious KWI International Fellowships 2025. About KWI KWI is a renowned interdisciplinary research institute located in the Ruhr Area, dedicated to advancing the fields of literary and cultural sociology, cultural science studies, science communication, and public humanities. Fellowship Details The KWI International Fellowship program offers a six-month residency from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025. Fellows will receive a monthly allowance of €4,000 (pre-tax) to cover rent, insurance, and living expenses. Partial reimbursement for travel expenses to and from KWI is also available. During their stay, fellows will have access to modern infrastructure, office space, technical support, and a comprehensive library service.

Eligibility and Expectations The fellowship is open to researchers worldwide who have completed their PhD and have up to six years of post-doctoral experience. German nationals may apply only if they are currently employed at an international institute. Project proposals should align with KWI’s research agenda.

Fellows are expected to:

  • Engage in research linked to KWI’s programmatic agenda.
  • Be present at least three days a week and participate in entry and exit interviews.
  • Actively participate in KWI academic events, including colloquia, lectures, and workshops.
  • Contribute to the KWI Blog and organize a workshop during their fellowship.
  • Mention KWI in any publications resulting from their fellowship.
  • Have a strong command of English; knowledge of German is not required.

Application Process Interested candidates must submit a single PDF file (max. 20 MB) containing their CV, list of publications, PhD certificate, and a project proposal (up to 5,000 characters) to kwi.fellowships@gmail.com by August 30, 2024 (midnight, CET).
