Google Summer of Code 2024 (GSoC) (Apply Now)


Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global initiative aimed at empowering students and new developers to contribute to open-source projects. Selected participants have the opportunity to work on coding projects for 12 weeks with open-source organizations, guided by experienced mentors. Each intern receives a stipend upon successful completion of the project, ranging from $3000 to $6600, depending on their location. GSoC offers participants the chance to engage in independent development work while receiving financial support.


In its 20th year, Google Summer of Code continues to welcome thousands of new developers into the open-source community annually. In 2024, Google has expanded its project focus to include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Security, reflecting the growing demand for expertise in these fields. How Google Summer of Code Works?

1. Students and Developers: Students and developers propose project ideas to participating open-source organizations.

2. Organizations: Organizations review proposals and select contributors for the summer.

3. Start Coding: Accepted applicants are paired with mentors from their chosen organization and commence work on their projects.

4. Submit: Projects must be submitted within the designated period.

Do You Need to Travel?

No travel is required for Google Summer of Code; all work can be conducted online.


GSoC Stipend

Stipend amounts vary based on project size:

- For medium-sized Projects: Minimum $1500, Maximum $3300

- For large-sized Projects: Minimum $3000, Maximum $6600

- For small-sized Projects: Minimum $750, Maximum $1650

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for GSoC, you must:

- Be at least 18 years old at the time of registration.

- Be eligible to work in the country where you reside during the program.

- Be a beginner in open-source development or a student.

- Not have been accepted as a GSoC Contributor/Student more than once.

- Submit a maximum of 3 project proposals (to different organizations or multiple proposals to the same organization).
