Prizes and Rewards:
- Top Prize (1 winner): Two round-trip airline tickets to Tokyo for the winner and a guardian in summer 2025. The trip includes a visit to ICU. Alternatively, the winner can choose a 100,000 yen cash prize.
- Second Prize (1 winner): 50,000 yen gift card
- Third Prize (10 winners): A copy of the “Illustrated Universal Declaration of Human Rights” in French, English, and Japanese, translated by ICU students.
- Special Prize (1 winner): Same as the third prize, awarded to someone who hasn’t been educated in English for more than a year.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must reside outside of Japan.
- Must be born between October 10, 2005, and October 9, 2010 (ages 14-18).
- Current university or college students are not eligible.
- Submit a 650-word essay in English based on one of the provided topics.
ICU 2024 Essay Topics:
- Global Issues in Your Community: Give an example of a global issue affecting your local community, why it interests you, and how you would act to bring peace to the situation.
- Cultural Accessibility: Reflecting on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, discuss how people around you may be excluded from participating in the cultural life of your community and how you would ensure it becomes accessible to everyone.
The essay should reflect your original ideas, and there are no right or wrong answers. The judges are looking for creativity, clarity, and thoughtful engagement with the topic. Let your experience and passion shine through!
